Demetra Presley, Go With the Flow, a 501(c)3 group dedicated to girls and women’s access to feminine hygiene products, spoke with our group at the December meeting. Along with her handout, she reported that 1 in 5 girls misses school because of not having access to the tampons or pads. Go With the Flow produce period packs and give them to schools for free for the girls. They have been distributing over 3,000 per semester in the last year. They have recently expanded to middle school and to ASU. One of the problems is lack of comprehensive sex education, another is our attitude toward menstruation, and another is shifting to more environmentally friendly products.
