Phoenix, take action on April 2

Equal Pay Day

On April 2 help raise awareness to the inequality of pay for women by offering a 20% discount on Equal Pay Day to women, or for anyone who believes the gender pay gap has negatively impacted their earning potential. If you are a museum, you can offer discount on admission, a store can give a discount on particular items or inventory, a restaurant can give a discount on drinks or desserts. There are many ways you can help raise awareness.

The bottom line here is that the gender pay gap does exist. Even when controlling for a host of factors, from age to experience to education to industry to time in the field, women consistently make less than their male counterparts. In some locations and industries, the gap is smaller than 80.5 cents on the dollar. But in many locations and industries, it’s much larger. It’s still not unheard of for women to make half what their male counterparts make, even for the same work.

In an effort to call out this disparity in pay on April 2, Central Phoenix • Inez Casiano NOW chapter is asking you to lower your prices by 20% for women, or for anyone who believes the gender pay gap has negatively impacted their earning potential.

Don’t forget to wear red on Equal Pay Day.

Our chapter is working hard to get Arizona to be the next state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Being aware of the disparity in pay is one step in helping raise awareness on achieving equal rights for women.

Participation is voluntary and at your own discretion.
