Women know what’s at stake today

  • Reproductive rights (Abortion and Birth Control)
  • Equal Rights Amendment
  • Freedom from violence

Every gain we’ve made in the past 50 years is at stake.

That’s why we need every one of you to step up – to change the dynamics and direction of this state and this country for the preservation of all our rights – voting, education, safety net, equality, fairness – our very democracy itself. The Arizona Supreme Court just overthrew the will of the people by throwing both the Invest in Ed and Dark Money initiatives off the ballot in November. We need to overthrow the power structure that did this.

In the primary, on the Democratic side, 29 women are running for 60 House seats; on the Republican side 8 women are running for those House seats. On the Democratic side 17 women are running for 30 Senate seats; on the Republican side 7 women are running for those seats. If we elected every woman running, we would be at 50% representation finally.

On the Democratic side; 31 people of color are running for the combined 90 seats; on the Republican side 3 people of color are running. Two Democratic incumbents were ousted in the primary:  Cajero-Bedford by a Hispanic male and female and Ken Clark by a female and person of color. Two Republican women incumbents were ousted by white men:  Michelle Reagan at secretary of state and Diane Douglas at Dept of Education. Unfortunately, both had widely demonstrated their incompetence and unfitness for office.  One Republican Black man beat a white man in the primary in LD 6.

In cities and towns women and people of color also cleaned up. At least 3 women, two women of color, are on the ballot for constable; at least two women of color are on the ballot for Justice of the Peace. We need every one of you to step up from now until November 6.

Pick a race – city, county, state, or federal. Donate time. Donate money. Make calls. Send letters. Be active on social media. March and walk the streets knocking on doors. Do what fits YOU.

Pick a group – NOW, ERA Task Force, Indivisible, Moms Demanding Action, Pantsuit Nation, Planned Parenthood, NAACP, Puente, LUCHA, your church, your neighborhood association, your bridge club and take political action together. It’s fun and you can make new friends!

But we need you NOW. For the future, for the grandchildren, for the world, for the earth, for ourselves, please do your part to help. Some particular races in Arizona that might tip the balance of the state House or Senate are legislative districts 6, 8, 10, 17, 18, 28. If your district is already in hand or completely hopeless, please help elsewhere.  Nobody can do everything but everybody can do something. If you need direction on where to go or what to do, contact legislative liaison [email protected].

NOW More Than Ever…
