(quote from the National Women’s March on Washington).

For those of us who support this and want to join together in Tucson, please come! We will work through the details on logistics in the coming weeks.”

…and their answers

  • What are you marching for? Is this an anti-Trump protest?

This is a march organized by women, and speaks to the struggles many women have dealt with for a very long time. This is not about one administration or one election cycle. This is about centuries of oppression, discrimination and assaults on people of color, the LGBTQIA community, and a war of fear that has been waged on marginalized groups in this country, such as our Muslim community. This march embodies the power of women to manifest change in our society, in our politics, in our communities and in our lives.

  • Who is invited to this event?

This event is open to anyone who believes women’s rights are human rights, regardless of a woman’s race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual identity, gender expression, economic status, age or disability.

  • What time should I show up?

Gathering will start about 10:00AM, but the march itself will not begin until closer to 11:00. We are working through details of having speakers and performers during the gathering time, before the march.

  • I’m in a wheelchair (or disabled, or have children in stroller) – how will that work?

We are planning on having the entire event accessible, including paved areas at Armory Park, the march route and areas defined for wheelchairs and strollers at both Armory Park and the library plaza.

  • What is the actual march route?

We are finalizing the route with the City of Tucson and will announce the route as soon as we can.

  • Will this event be safe for my kids?

This march is peaceful, and our planning groups are focusing their efforts on the safety of all marchers. We will provide guidance on how you can help make this a safe and peaceful march as the event gets closer. The decision to bring your children is a personal one.

  • I’m driving, where do I park?

Click here for a map of downtown parking. Additionally, we suggest checking out Sunlink and organizing carpools/vanpools with other attendees. We are looking into additional parking but each attendee is responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.

  • What happens on January 22?

The movement does not stop when everyone goes home after the march. Each day, every one of us lives our values. We uphold ourselves, our families and our communities to live the vision of the world we seek. We honor our sisters, defend the rights of our neighbors and find ways to bring justice and peace to those in need. We plan to continue action beyond this march, and will communicate further in February.

The following is a full description of the Women’s March on Washington from the National Organizers.

On January 21, 2017 we will unite in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families — recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us–women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.

We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE.

This is an INCLUSIVE march, and EVERYONE who supports women’s rights are welcome.
